Averda is the leading waste & recycling management company in the emerging World, operating in India, Africa and the Middle East.

Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Dubai, UAE, Averda increasingly focuses on sustainable solutions which extract value form waste, reducing the use of the planet’s limited natural resources and driving the circular economy. The company provides a range of service to over 60,000 clients large and small, including waste & recycling collections in many major cities.

In 2022, Averda procured RouteSmart-for-ArcGIS licences having previously used the software in 2010. According to Ahmad Rifai, Group GIS & Business Analytics Manager, “To assist the company in winning new contracts we were looking for a GIS based route optimisation solution, so we naturally turned to Integrated Skills Limited who provide RouteSmart in the Middle East. RouteSmart has a proven track record and is an invaluable tool in our route optimisation processes.” The software is, according to Ahmad, used in Averda to optimize resources, reduce our carbon footprint, estimate required resources for new tenders and streamline our services. Ahmad continues “We have used RouteSmart in our bids and service roll outs in cities and territories including Morocco, Congo, KSA and UAE”

Thanks to the flexibility of RouteSmart, Averda are able to use their own streets network which they create on the ESRI GIS platform for each of their contracts. The company chose to install the software locally on their own IT infrastructure though ISL can offer a hosted service for RouteSmart installations.

Alan Paget, CEO of Integrated Skills Limited (“ISL”), states “We have operated in the Middle East for over 30 years and this route optimisation software sale to Averda represents another successful chapter in our history in the region.” He continues “ISL has always had successful relationships with waste & recycling contractors in the UK, Europe and the Middle East and we expect this to continue long into the future”.

ISL has produced several GIS based software solutions to compliment RouteSmart for ArcGIS including a job/asset/contract management system called “Performance Manager”, an in-cab solution for service verification incorporating navigation along optimised routes named “Navigator” as well as a range of smartphone apps for field-based data collection. These solutions are currently, or have been previously, used across the Middle East including Oman, Bahrain, the UAE, Lebanon and Palestine.
