Stephen Burnett, BA, MSC – Associate

Stephen Burnett is an economist with 18 years of wide-ranging practical experience as an environmental economist and financial analyst. His particular expertise lies in the economic / financial appraisal and financing of waste management and other environmental projects, and the development of business plans for new waste management facilities / services. He recently acted as Project Manager for the development of two integrated waste management facilities in the UK, and as finance director for a company developing a new thermal waste treatment technology. He also undertook an investigation into pricing mechanisms currently employed in waste management contracts financed under the "Private Finance Initiative" and assessed their ability to deliver value for money in comparison with more traditional pricing mechanisms. Stephen is an acknowledged expert on the economics of recovering energy from waste and, in 1993, was retained by the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution to prepare an assessment of the comparative economics of energy from waste in relation to landfill. This appeared as an appendix to its 17th Report (The Incineration of Wastes - 1993).
