Nicholas Crick, MA, MBA, FCIWM, MCIWEM, MIWMSA - Director
Nick Crick has dual qualifications as a chemist and economist, and has worked in the field of wastes management for over 30 years. For much of this period, he held a position as Senior Manager with a major international waste management services company. His particular expertise lies in the planning, organisation, financing and management of waste collection and disposal services for municipal and both hazardous and non-hazardous industrial wastes, together with institutional strengthening in all aspects of waste management. He has wide international experience of the financial analysis of waste management projects and the interpretation and practical application of waste management legislation.
Recent projects include:
- Research for the UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the implications of data deficiencies on local authority decision making in the field of waste management.
- Comparison of the costs and recycling rates of different methods of collecting recyclables – for several UK local authorities
- Development of designs for the covering of Agricultural Drains and systems for prevention of their contamination by solid and liquid wastes for the Egyptian Public Authority for Drainage Projects.
- A study for HM Treasury of options for recycling revenue from planned increases in the UK landfill tax from 2005-6 back to business, in order to tackle market failures and reduce the volume of business waste landfilled.
- Development of a waste management plan for the Island of Guernsey.
- Development of a hazardous waste management system, including an integrated strategy, together with design and implementation of inventory, consignment notes, licensing regulations and standards, Basel Convention procedures, raising of public awareness and the provision of training for the State Committee for Environment, Azerbaijan.
- Preparation of tender documentation for a municipal waste collection contract and evaluation of the tenders received for West Wiltshire District Council, UK.
- Design and introduction of legislation and administration for waste management, the preparation of a waste management strategy, the introduction of a code of practice and strategy for medical waste management and the preparation of guidelines for landfill selection, investigation, design, operation and closure, for the Government of Botswana.
