
Robert Wheatley has over 30 years diverse experience of developing, planning and managing major engineering projects, particularly in the waste management sector. His achievements include the development of the South East London Combined Heat and Power scheme (SELCHP) from concept through public consultation, planning, design, construction, commissioning and operational phases. He has also developed the Kirklees and Isle of Man integrated waste management schemes, and has successfully negotiated two waste management PFI schemes (Kirklees and South Gloucestershire) and played a leading role in the Surrey County Council PFI waste management partnership.
A seasoned and commercially orientated manager, he has been active in the merger and acquisition of waste management businesses, establishing a £150 million group from scratch between 1995 and 2000. He has also held a number of key positions in the industry, including Chief Executive Officer of the United Waste Group, Director and General Manager of SITA UK and non-executive directorships in various businesses such as London Waste Limited and Tractebel LNG Limited.
