About usCapabilitiesHistoryISL was formed by Mike Betts and Nick Crick in 1993 to provide high quality environmental advisory and management services to government and industry, especially in the field of waste management. Work was undertaken internationally and to date the company has worked in more than 60 countries. In 1998, following a number of successful projects, ISL opened a branch in Guernsey, which became a subsidiary company in 2000, led by Matt Polson. A notable success for this company was the development of our streetworks coordination software, Trafficworx™, which has been operating successfully in Guernsey since 2003. The Guernsey business was further augmented by the acquisition of Campbell & Bloese, a specialised structural engineering consultancy in 2005. ISL acquired the exclusive distribution rights to RouteSmart™, our high-density routing software, in 2000 - a far-sighted development which did not make serious progress until 2006, since when it has become one of the mainstays of the company’s business. In 2008, we have added WinRoute™, a first-class low-density routing package for containerised waste collection, product and parcels delivery etc. In addition to specific routing work, we now offer a substantial capability in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) which is led by James Holt. 2008 also saw ISL's most ambitious move to date - the opening of our Southampton office and the recruitment of a high-profile team of specialists offering services to local government and industry in the UK, which is led by Patrick Scott. ISLUKWith offices in both the North and South of the UK, we have assembled a team of people who understand the current pressures on local authorities and have devised a range of consultancy services which will help councils to meet the "more for less" agenda. With our combination of waste management experts, planning and permitting practitioners and engineers, we offer our clients comprehensive services in the development of waste facilities from the identification of potential sites, through design, planning and permitting to procurement and construction supervision. We provide practical advice in connection with regulatory enforcement action, appeals and Public Inquiries. A significant amount of ISLUK's business relates to RouteSmart™, ISL's High density route optimisation software, which is ideally suited for waste collection, street sweeping and winter maintenance - ISLUK's core business areas, but is also aimed at meter reading, newspaper delivery and postal applications. See the links section for the RouteSmart™ web site, where there are a range of case studies and presentations available for download. We also offer WinRoute™, which is specifically aimed at the "low density" routing problem applicable to skips and other large waste containers - as well as product deliveries etc. ISL also offers a number of other IT-related products and services, such as Trafficworx™ for Streetworks management, permitting and coordination together with Performance Review which can provide a fresh, impartial view of your organisation's environmental operations and the key information needed to minimise risks, reduce costs and improve performance. In addition to the services described above, ISL's Guernsey office offers specialised IT services and also structural engineering, though its subsidiary Campbell and Bloese.
